Greetings Roberts Families!

I hope that everyone has enjoyed the summer break with your families and friends.  I am excited to be back in the office preparing for the new school year.  Mrs. Johnson has kept me quite busy with a list of “honey do” jobs this summer.  😊

My theme for the 2019/2020 school year is: “Looking for Heroes”.  It is my goal this year that every student will step up and become a “Hero” for someone every day.  I want the students of Roberts Elementary to focus on what would life look like if they looked at situations through “that person’s eyes” when they are upset with, wanting to help, or are concerned about an individual.  I want to change the focus from Me to Us!

This school year, we begin the journey of becoming an official “Leader in Me” school.  The Leader in Me program is based on 5 core paradigms:

  1. 1. Everyone can be a leader!  Not leadership is only for the few.

  1. 2.  Everyone has genius!  Not only a few people are gifted.

  1. 3.  Change starts with me!  Not to improve schools, the system needs to change first.

  1. 4.  Educators empower students to lead their own learning!  Not educators’ control and direct student learning.

  1. 5.  Develop the whole person!  Not focus solely on academic achievement.

Research supports that when implemented, the Leader in Me program improves student behavior, student leadership, student attendance, and academic growth in Reading and Math proficiency.  If you would like to learn more about the Leader in Me program, you can visit www.leaderinme.org.

Like any program, it takes everyone to be a part of it for it to be successful.  Parents, you are your child’s first teacher.  We need all of you to take an active role in your child’s education.  There are several ways you can assist us at the school as a parent volunteer.  We need you!!  Please see me if you would like to volunteer.  There is a place for everyone!!

I have an open-door policy!  Please come and see me with any questions and/or concerns.  You can reach me in the office at (586) 797-6100 or by email at wayne.johnson@uticak12.org  Again, this is going to be a great year!  I am excited for the days that lie ahead for all of us!

UCS Mission

We are committed to exemplary teaching and learning in order for our students to be prepared for success in the 21st Century.
We will achieve this commitment by engaging the entire community to focus on each child's achievement, with the expectation that every student will pursue some type of post-high school educational endeavor.

Core Values

  • Every child can learn and achieve.
  • Parents and guardians are partners in the learning process.
  • Being “smart” can be achieved through persistence, hard work and effective effort.
  • Excellence is expected and celebrated.
  • Data is used to guide our decision-making.
  • All employees will exemplify ethical behavior; exhibit a strong work ethic; and continue to develop their leadership, performance and service skills.
  • Technology supports and enhances instruction, business operations, research and communications.
  • The Board of Education, district educators/staff, parents, community members and business leaders must collaborate and work as a team to enhance educational opportunities for student success.
