It’s December already ????

Well, the hustle and bustle of the holidays has arrived!  The whole Christmas season is one of my favorite times of the year.   I have many wonderful memories of all the years I was able to spend with family and friends.  I can remember going every year with my  dad to pick our family Christmas Tree and setting it up in the  family room.  Mom would make hot chocolate  and popcorn for my 2 brothers and myself as we decorated the tree.  Being the shortest of the family, I was always jealous of my oldest brother Paul who was tall enough to put the Angel on top of the tree.  Still to this day, he puts the angel on the  top of the  tree!  I love tradition!

It seems like yesterday, the three of us boys would wake up early to check out the presents under  the  tree.   Back in my growing up years, my parents didn’t have much money, but we knew we would have at least a couple of presents under the tree.  We knew we could not open the presents until our  parents got up, but we sure did spend a lot of time shaking them and guessing what could be inside.   Once we had checked out the presents,  the three of us  would take our stockings off the fire place and head to our  parent’s bedroom.  We would take turns pulling out the items that we had in them and showing each other.  We were always excited because we knew that each of us would get a pack of chewing gum, a pair of dress socks, an orange, and a story book set of Life Savers!  Oh to go back and to be able to do that as a family one more time…..

What traditions does your family have?  I would encourage  every family to  take the time to talk with your children about the Christmas traditions you , as parents, had when you were growing up.  I  think it would be wonderful to shut the tv and all the electronics off and sit together as a family and just share your stories with each other as you eat dinner, have a snack,  play a board  game, etc.

On behalf of the staff and myself, I would like to wish everyone a “Very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.”
